Microsoft has just released the July Community Technical Preview (CTP) of Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio (MRDS) 2008, which is the second release after the previous one released in April. It has a lot of new features and improvements compared to the last one.

Following is a list features that are most exciting to us:

New Samples and Tutorials

A variety of new samples and tutorials are included in this CTP that illustrate the functionalities ranging from discovering DSS nodes to embedding the visual simulation environment.

Simulation and 64-bit Machines

MRDS now can use the Microsoft Windows-32-on-Windows-64 (WOW64) subsystem to force the simulation to run on 64-bit systems. It means that the 64/32 bit compatibility has gone one step ahead than previous one.

Visual Studio Project Wizards

We can create new service projects directly from Visual Studio 2005 and 2008 using the Visual Studio Project Wizards, which will facilitate the creation and management of the projects.

DSS Log Analyzer

MRDS has provided a new debugging and monitoring tool for us to develope the projects, which is really powerful. It can visualize the message exchanges between the nodes in the services. We can gain deeper analyse on the messages now.

Embedded Visual Simulation Environment

In this CTP, the Visual Simulation Environment can now be embedded in other applications. This makes the applications show the Visual Simulation Environment as part of it, which is user-friendly for us.

You can see a lot of powerful features have been added.
