MRDS stands for Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio.

Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio (MRDS) is an Integrated Development Environment that enables hobbyists, academics and commercial developers to create robotics applications. And the applications can be used to a lot of intelligent related areas such as entertainment, educational, home, commercial, or industrial segments. They can be deployed into a variety of platforms including the embedded systems. The latested version of this software is MRDS 2008.

Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio provides a visual programming environment which allows developers to create applications simply by dragging and dropping components onto a canvas and wiring them together. Also there are other choices for writing applications like Microsoft Visual Studio. MRDS 2008 can be used with any of the Visual Studio 2008 Express Editions, Visual Studio 2008 Standard Edition, Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition or Visual Studio 2008 Team System Edition. It means that the robotics application can be built with both commercial and non-commercial development environment, because the Express Editions are free to download and use.

MRDS also provides a powerful Visual Simulation Environment, which can be used to simulate the real-world environment. And that simulation is powered by a graphic engine called AGEIA Technologies™ PhysX™ engine. I’ve seen that simulation environment by this engine, which is really impressive and just like a real world.

Following is picture from that Visual Simulation Environment that we can take a look at:

And there is an official Forum from which we can get the latest news, and share the information in a community.
